If we’re photographing on the beach, always bring a hair tie or clip. A gentle ocean breeze can create beautiful movement, but occasionally the wind decides to become the star of the show.
Having a backup hairstyle not only saves the day if conditions change, but it also gives you a second look during your session without needing a full outfit change.
5. Wear Something You Feel Comfortable In
Your outfit should help you feel confident, not distract you throughout the session.
I always recommend avoiding clothing you’ll constantly need to adjust. Tight dresses, tops that slip off the shoulder, or pants that ride up can pull you out of the moment and make posing feel more stressful than it needs to be.
Many brides to be choose white or neutral tones for their engagement photos, which photograph beautifully on Hilton Head’s beaches. If you do plan to wear white, don’t forget to think through your undergarments ahead of time to ensure everything feels seamless and comfortable.
6. Protect Your Skin Before Your Session
If there’s one piece of advice I could give every couple planning engagement photos on Hilton Head Island, it’s this: don’t get sunburned.
The South Carolina sun is strong, especially during spring and summer. Sunburns and tan lines can be difficult to minimize in editing and often appear more noticeable in photographs than they do in real life.
Instead, wear SPF consistently leading up to your session and embrace your natural skin tone. If you’re considering a spray tan, be sure to choose a reputable provider, as some tans can appear overly saturated or orange on camera.
